I'll Bring the Booze If You Bring the Coffee

That sounds like a country song - and it's a great tune to hear.

We very much encourage filmmakers to support each other in ramping up to the festival, during the craziness that is the festival - and for as long as you're on the circuit.  You never know, you might be able to room together and save some bucks when you find yourselves at the same screenings down the road.  We've had alumni get together on projects that have come back to screen years later.

So let the networking begin!

Booze and Coffee are covered, so we'll bring the Tea & Biscuits.

If you're in town next month, drop us a line on our Facebook page, and we'd love to meet up. Always enjoy connecting with other filmmakers, sharing experiences, and rooting for each others next projects.

Not sure if this is a good idea or not, or if people would even use it... (or heck, if this exists already?) but I just created a private Facebook Group called "Dances with Filmmakers 2012".

Maybe we could all hop in there for assorted DWF-related shenanigans?

Looking forward to meeting everyone and seeing some great films!

Getting pretty close to the end now I imagine. Any estimate on when the pass letters will be going out?

Dude, you guys are like 11 days past the notify deadline. Does that mean I get my $30 bucks back? If I was late, you'd have penalized me. Kinda ridiculous honestly.

Mikey, if you read this blog you'd see that your comment is nearly nonsensical. This festival is one of the best in the world for keeping filmmakers in the loop. Take a look at other blog posts and comments to see what I mean.

That makes no sense.

Brad, Thanks for watching our back.

Mikey, the idea of a notification deadline comes from WithoutaBox, not any of the festivals. They also impose a late-late submissions deadline which makes it impossible to screen and program the late entries in time to make the ficticious notification deadline. That's why the late-late fees are so ridiculously high.

Also, how do you know we've missed the notification deadline? Most festivals don't send out pass letters, so the only notification you get if you don't make it is silence.

We go to great pains to send out pass letters with a comment about each movie included. There is no requirement for this, and so no deadline.

If you really want your $30 back, you're welcome to come spend as much time working for each of the minimum of 3 judges who took time out of their lives to screen and comment on your film as they have spent on you.

Wow! Moving on. Robert, just found out my buddies film, Fuzz Track City was just accepted. Stoked for him. Anyhow, do you all program shorts before features? Still hoping Pepper has a shot. We want to pack the house if given the opportunity. Thanks!

RSMellette said...

We program both shorts and features at about the same time, though I'm sure we will have a couple of slots open right up until the end of the week.

Hearing that there are still a couple of slots open keeps all of us very excited. :)

Robert. Thanks for keeping us well informed. Just curious. What's the policy on "replacement" copies? I mailed my original entry of "Odds or Evens" back in Feb.

In mid March, after cutting nearly 4 minutes from my short film, I asked if I could send the leaner, meaner version of the film. I was encouraged to do, but was also informed that programming had already begun.

Having read your blog, it was my understanding that many of the films received a "second look." Can I assume my "replacement" copy received a second look, or was I too late?

Thanks.

Yep, holding on to sweet sweet hope! Ha.

First, good idea to cut anything and everything that can be cut from a short. It's a lean art form.

You were not too late.

For those who are still waiting, get your 2-Minute 2-Step submissions in!

Still hoping for The Proper Rules to Stuffing Hostages in Trucks!

By the way, the professionalism of sending out individual pass letters is admirable. I wish all festivals would be this open with the selection process.

I did not know that the announce date was set by WithoutABox. Thanks for the clarification. And your response. You guys are very transparent which is very cool. What about music vids? Thats honestly what I am waiting to hear about....

Thanks for the constant communication with all of us through your blog and facebook. As new filmmakers to the festival circuit we greatly appreciate it.

any word on when the last of the notifications will be sent out? I presume end of this week?

The suspense is killing us too... Would love so much for our film, SHI to have it's world premier at "DWF15"! Just a bit concerned about multi-cultural art-house films having a chance.

Hi Robert,
Just a q re the extended deadline at WAB that has always intrigued me. How do you work with it? Do you get a lot of entries for this deadline? and, would you have most of your programming fairly in place by then, or do you wait? It is always baffling for me, seeing that extended deadline so close to the notification date. On all WAB fests!
Thanks in advance
